Abu Dhabi has released its first-half 2026 figures: the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque welcomed more than 3.1 million visitors — a record flow for the UAE's principal place of worship and one of the most-visited religious sites on the planet. Three Guinness World Records

The mosque holds three official titles at once. The first and best known is the world's largest hand-knotted carpet. It covers 5 400 m², weighs 35 tonnes, and contains more than 2.5 billion knots. The carpet was the work of 1 200 artisans from Iran — the process took several years and required coordinating an entire workshop before the finished piece was shipped to Abu Dhabi and laid in the main prayer hall.

Daily iftars at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque have long been part of Abu Dhabi's civic tradition, with hundreds of volunteers and organisers preparing and distributing food to thousands of fasting worshippers and visitors every day.
