The profile of the buyer who gets defrauded
It is not the uninformed one. Frauds in this market select for a specific combination of urgency, secrecy and a reason not to ask questions in public.
The person defrauded in this market is rarely the least informed. Frauds here select for a specific combination of circumstances, and recognising the combination in yourself is more useful than any list of warning signs.
The combination
- Urgency. A deadline that is real to the client — a visa expiring, a business decision, a family situation. Urgency removes the step where things are checked.
- A reason for discretion. Someone who does not want to discuss their plans publicly cannot ask around, cannot compare notes, and cannot be warned. Fraudsters actively cultivate this, and confidentiality is presented as a service.
- A weak position. A restricted passport, a difficult nationality, a previous refusal. The worse the starting position, the more plausible an unusual route sounds — and the less the client feels entitled to demand normal terms.
- Money that is available but not unlimited. Enough to be worth taking, not enough to litigate across borders afterwards.
- A trusted introduction. The single strongest factor. Most of these arrangements arrive through someone the client already trusts, who is themselves a referrer rather than a principal.
What the fraud offers in return
Not a bargain. Certainty. The product is the removal of doubt: a guaranteed outcome, a fixed timeline, a route around a problem the client believes is insurmountable. That is why price is rarely the hook — the offers are often expensive.

The countermeasures
- Introduce a delay deliberately. Any offer that cannot survive two weeks of checking was not an offer.
- Tell one person. Discretion about your plans does not require secrecy from your own adviser or a trusted contact who can look at it coldly.
- Pay for an independent opinion from someone with no interest in the outcome. It costs a fraction of the fee.
- Assume your position is worse leverage, not better. A difficult starting position is exactly why an unusual route is being offered to you specifically.
- Write down what you are being promised and ask them to sign it. The reaction to that request answers the question.
Request a consultation
Leave your name, phone and the country you have in mind — I will come back with what your situation actually allows: which status is realistic, what it takes and how long it runs.
- An answer for your country and your circumstances, not a brochure
- What it takes: documents, timelines, the order of filing
- How to tell an operator from someone selling a deposit
